Call Center                                                         

Within the context of activating the Consumer Protection Service and the strategic partnership and cooperation between the public and private sectors, a Hotline number (1739) was established.  1739 aims to provide the consumers with an easy access to the MoET and prompt them to take action whenever they are facing an issue in the consumer protection field. Moreover, it gives attention to citizens' complaints and suggestions.

 
Training

There are continuous training programs for updating the employees in the Service with various developments and practices in the consumer protection field.   For instance, inspectors of CPS in different regional services were trained to differentiate between genuine and counterfeit products. 


Campaigns

Campaigns were conducted by CPS staff to promote the hotline and keep consumers aware of their rights. Many more national campaigns are to be organized.  During the campaigns, brochures and stickers were distributed to solicit citizens to ask for a receipt of purchased goods, encourage them to read expiry dates and notify the CPS if they have any doubts concerning the safety of the products or if they fear they bought the fake product.  These campaigns will be an ongoing process in partnership with different public and private bodies.  Among the giant steps to promulgate the awareness of the consumer is the Kiosk which will be located in Downtown area to distribute related brochures and pamphlets and generally make the public aware of its mandate.

Connecting the Consumer Protection Services Together

There is a rotation activity among the different inspectors in different regions. Moreover, there is a project to electronically connect the CPS in Beirut with the different regional services to coordinate and harmonize different surveillance activities.


Latest Consumer Protection Legislation

New Consumer Protection Law was approved by the Lebanese Parliament.  It represents a new vision to the consumer protection with a modern approach to the consumer protection; for example it stresses the conflict resolution, private public partnership, coverage of services in addition to goods.  This law is awaiting for the decrees and decisions to be issued soon.
