The project also includes an ex-ante assessment of the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP), with the objective of identifying national priorities and outlining action plans for Lebanon in line with ENP guidelines.
The project builds upon existing methodologies developed by UNEP in the framework of integrated assessment and planning tools and techniques and the EU’s sustainability impact assessment methodology.
The draft background paper for the study was presented on 16th of February 2005 in Geneva during the mid-term review meeting on integrated assessment and planning for sustainable development during which positive feedback was received and as a result the project was technically kick-started. The launching workshop in Lebanon was however delayed until the 23rd of May due to the tragic event that shook the country on the 14th of February 2005. Preliminary findings were presented on the 22nd of September 2005 in Geneva during the second mid-term review meeting; the study will be finalized by December 2005.
