date : Feb 19 -2013
Today Tuesday 19th of Feb 2013, H.E. Mr. Nicolas Nahas, Minister of Economy & Trade and The Reverend Father Rector, Dr. Hady Mahfouz, President of USEK signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Ministry of Economy & Trade in the presence of EU Delegation Representative Mr. Francisco Lopez-Menchero, Dr. Ali Berro, Director of the EU-funded Quality Programme-QUALEB, Ms. Salam Yamout, Director of Project Administration Office (PAO) at PCM, Dr. Naim Ouaini, vice-president of USEK for public relations.
Through this MOU, QUALEB- the Quality programme at Ministry of Economy and Trade will provide technical assistance support to USEK physico-chemical laboratories to get them ready for ISO 17025 accreditation. This support of around 40000€ covers the provision of Consultancies, Trainings and Proficiency testing schemes.
Having a local accredited laboratory is like opening a gate for Lebanese products to enter international markets which will in turn facilitate exports from Lebanon to the world.
QUALEB is a European Union funded Project, aiming at strengthening Quality management, Capabilities and Infrastructure in Lebanon.
On this occasion H.E. Minister Nahas emphasized on the importance of cooperating with all Quality actors in Lebanon and in particular the universities. It is only by bringing on board all the actors that Lebanon will be able to have an operational and modern Quality infrastructure that will smoothen Lebanon entry to globalization.
The Reverend Father Rector Dr. Hady Mahfouz thanked the Ministry of Economy & Trade and the European Union for their continuous support.
