The Lebanese SME Forum organized by the Ministry of Economy and Trade constitutes the first of a series of yearly thematic events focusing on the SME sector, and involving relevant players on the national and regional levels. The overall goal is to enhance synergies between constituents of the SME environment in Lebanon in order to forge a better business environment. 
Your Needs, Our Challenges” is this year’s one-day interactive forum that includes live interventions and thought exchanges between key representatives from the public, private, and non-governmental sectors as well as entrepreneurs and SME managers. The objectives of this event are to identify a number of actionable and practical recommendations that the Ministry and other stakeholders will follow up on through new initiatives.

Overview of the main challenges facing SMEs



Adequate infrastructure and legislation are fundamental needs for a proper business environment. This panel has examined infrastructure and legislation gaps and ways to address them on the short and long terms. Panelists aimed towards practical recommendations on topics  such as opening and closing a business, SME registration, access to proper communication and transportation grids and related topics.

Filling the gaps in the funding spectrum and easing access to capital

Recent years have seen the introduction of a number of funding tools for SMEs and startups including debt and equity instruments.Despite this significant progress, several gaps remain in terms of funding at the growth stage, ease of access to capital for entrepreneurs, scope of coverage of industries and regions, and other elements that can benefit from improvement. This panel has discussed  shortcomings in existing funding options and solutions to address them, how to encourage investment in SMEs operating in traditional economic sectors, and ways to engage the private sector and large incumbent businesses to invest in SMEs and act as their channel partners.
