Minister Bisat stressed in his speech that Lebanon is going through a delicate period which requires “ a collective will, a transparent dialogue and a realistic approach that accepts the reality without succumbing to it”, affirming that “the situation does not allow for procrastination” and that “recovery is not a political option, rather a national duty”.

Furthermore, His Excellency asserted that Lebanon has a real opportunity in case it adheres to the necessary reforms leading to increase the production and exports as well as to attract investments needed for the Lebanese economy.

In this regard, Minister Bisat stated that the Ministry of Economy plays a comprehensive coordination role aiming to create effective cooperation areas between the public authorities and the private sector in order to establish a solid economic base.

The meeting covered four core topic, as follows:

  • The medium term economic vision that the Ministry is developing with the cooperation of the Ministries and sectors and it is expected to be achieved during the two coming months and presented at the investment meeting to be held in November.
  • Enhance the competitiveness of the Lebanese economy through reducing the production cost,  promoting the investment  and activating the trade agreements to the interest of the Lebanese exporters and consumers.
  • Follow the negotiation process with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from the perspective of the Lebanese interest in order to reach a comprehensive program that addresses the financial imbalance, tackles the banking crisis and restores confidence in the economy.
  • Limit inflation and prices’ increase through strengthening the control process and enforcing the competition law as a structural reform that ensures fair and reasonable prices in addition to quality for the Lebanese consumer.

At the end, Minister Bisat highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability as a prerequisite for restoring trust stating that: “there is no economy without trust; no trust without  accountability and consequently, no accountability without transparency”.
